The wish list
Hola Amigos, next week I will be turning the big 4-0! I have no idea how that happened, I still feel and act much, much younger ;) It’s also Mother’s day here in Spain and in the USA soon, so I thought I’d do a little gift inspiration this week. If you or anyone in your life is celebrating and you’re looking for some ideas, look no further. Since it’s my 40th and most of my friends are turning 40 the year too, there are some blow the budget fashion options included, but also lots of lower and mid price things, basically, something for everyone :) x
I got myself this little black dress from Uterque for my party next week. I tried on lots of sparkly numbers as it’s my 40th, and I was feeling the pressure to buy more of a showstopper, but as I’ve spoken about lately, I am only buying clothes that will be worn many, many times, and will not sit in my wardrobe gathering dust. so I decided to buy something more useful instead. Its a great, flattering shape, perfect for dressing up with a sandal or down with a sneaker, and I know I’ll wear it all summer long.
I’ve got my “eye” on this great tee by Kenzo. It’s a cool, throw it on, goes with everything type of Tee, perfect!
This absolute stunner from Celine is so chic and elegant, pity it’s 3 Thousand Euros!
Seriously, what’s the pice increase since Pheobe left Celine! Sigh.
Ok, I know these are all budget busters, but you may know that bags are my weakness and truly the one thing I don’t mind saving up for. I’ve had my eye on these bags for a few years now. I have to admit that Louis Vuitton sometimes feels a little classic for me. The Pochette Metis is one of their most popular bags of late, and I have to admit I always admire it when I see it on someone, it really is a gorgeous little bag, the price point of 1300 euros is also slightly more reasonable than some of the other top luxury brands, who have all increased their prices. Speaking of increased prices, this Dior tote has really rocketed up since it was released a couple of years back. It’s now 2100 Euros, which for a bag that has no hardware or leather, seems excessive. It’s so gorgeous though, striking and chic, and has a fairly relaxed attitude to it, as it’s made of canvas.
The little rafia and leather Loewe bag is so cute! The type of bag you could wear all summer long. Casual enough for holidays at the beach and sophisticated enough for the city, perfect.
Ok, it looks like I’ve got a crossbody bag addiction, but ever since I had my little boy, top handle bags became absolutely useless. This lovely box leather bag from French brand Ateliers Auguste is a great everyday bag. I don’t know about you but I’ve got far too many black bags, so I really love the grey. Although I have to admit the black version is super sharp! While still expensive, At under 300 Euros, its much more affordable than the others I’m currently drooling over.
A great gift to receive, but shoes really are a treat yourself kind of purchase. I absolutely love these fun espadrilles from Spanish brand Castanyer. They would be fabulous for any summer event.
These nude wedges are an interesting take on the cool heel trend that Jacquemus have made popular recently.
The sneakers by MM6 Margiella, are on my birthday list. A great comfy platform sole and 200 euros cheaper than the Balenciaga version.
I love a rattan slip on for summer, these chic little leather mules from Zara home will go with everything and are perfect for the indoors/ outdoors living summer brings.
You can’t go wrong with a lovely set of Pjs. These snakeskin ones on the left are from Spanish high street store Oysho. Soft, flowy and elegant for lounging around the house, and a good price point for a birthday gift. If you want to really splash out, For restless sleepers do really incredible high end versions of these. Liberty London also have beautiful, printed silk designs.
This sweet little short set by Zara home are made from cotton, they will keep you lovely and cool all summer long.
Jewellery and Accessories
Anyone in your life would be delighted to receive some pretty jewellery. Especially something personal, like this letter necklace by Spanish brand Uno de 50. “Influenced” shall we say by Celine’s knock out bamboo letters, but at a much better price point of 50 Euros.
This Loewe bangle is beyond! I am obsessed. They are definitely the go to brand for all the heart broken Philophiles like myself. Who aren’t super excited at Heidi’s new Celine. Its a bit of a budget buster at 700 euros though, so maybe for a special birthday or treat to yourself.
These little animal print earrings from Uterque are great gift for a friend. Fun, and the colour will go with all skin tones.
I need these bad boys from Celine in my life.
Another, definitely on my birthday list item. Thankfully Heidi hasn’t thrown away all of Pheobe’s greatest hits, and you can’t get better than these kick ass black frames. Love!
These two cracking little make up purchases I’ve made recently and would make great little gifts.
The L’Oreal lipgloss, is amazing! It goes on silky smooth and dries quickly, matt, but not drying and has great staying power. There’s not a huge selection of colours yet, but I got the colour above, which is an orange, red. Perfect for sunny days of Spring and Summer. They are super value too, here in Spain they’re 13 Euros. Even better if you live in the UK, and can get them from Boots as part of a 3 for 2 offer!
I am a huge Charlotte Tilbury fan, everything I have bought from the range I am head over heels in love with. Including this gorgeous little Rose gold eye shadow cream. It’s flattering for both warm and cool skin tones, goes on easily and stays. Since I am approaching 40 I usually avoid eye shadow creams as they can build up in the creases of your eyes, and its super unflattering, but these don’t.
When it comes to scents, it’s nice to find something a little more unusual.
11 years ago we stayed at the incredible Le Sirenuse hotel in Positano. They have the most incredible home and perfume range. My favourite is “Eau d’ Italie”. I know, perfume is a very personal thing, and tricky to gift someone, but this Sirenuse scent is one of my all time faves! People ask me all the time when I’m wearing it. Its light and summery and I think would be fresh enough for most people. They also sell the soap, shower gel, hand and body cream, which make perfect gifts.
Maison Margiela have a really beautiful range of unusual and interesting scents called Replica. Stemming from the concept of memories and emotions transformed into scents. I was drawn to the “Beach walk”, as it’s that time of year. It put me on the send, smelling the sea immediately, I was transported. Thats what great scents can do, evoke our memories and take us somewhere lovely. They have lots to choose from, all unique and extremely evocative.
What could be lovelier than receiving a lovely book. I collect coffee table fashion books, and can never have enough! The two above are definitely on my birthday list. The Vogue covers book is a perfect way to revisit great fashion moments and looks fabulous sitting in your living room too! If you read the blog, you’ll know that I am obsessed with Italy, in particular the stunning landscapes and coastlines of Capri. This photography book by Grey Malin will be perfect for any Italophiles in your life.
I love a good cookery book, even though I am beyond hopeless in the kitchen! I was listening to Jay Reyner’s podcast the other week, and absolutely loved his interview with the actor Stanley Tucci, his passion for food and the anecdotes about his Italian heritage made me search for this book immediately afterwards.
Keeping on the Italian theme, I told you, it’s an obsession! Why not combine cooking and a favourite destination. A lovely idea for any foodies in your life who love to travel.
A gift for the home is always appreciated. These are two of my favourite items to give and receive. Diptyque candles are expensive compared to other brands, but they really are a step above their competitors. Their scents are vibrant and natural, not stifling and overpowering like some other brands. Plus, when they’re finished they make lovely little flower pots or make up brush holders.
I love nice glassware, that must be a sign of getting older! lol Last year for our 10 year wedding anniversary my mum and dad gifted us some beautiful handblown glasses from a store in Capri. They are made in Murano, Italy, and are available to ship world wide.
Make it personal
Everyone loves a little personalised item. From make up bags to jewellery, you can’t go wrong.
Hope you found something fab for yourself or a loved one. I’ll be leaving this page open for Mr Style Pop to get some gift inspo for me! :)
Have a wonderful weekend Amigos, and lots of love to any of you who are celebrating a birthday too!
