A Stylish Halloween
It’s that time year again when there’s a chill in the air and the thought of getting out my Autumnal clothes fills me with such joy, I can’t tell you! I am a lover of layers, and finally Barcelona is losing it’s summer heat, huzzah!
As next week is Halloween I thought we’d take our costume inspiration from some of the most identifiable and Iconic characters in fashion. Starting off with my own personal inspiration for this year…
Little Edie Bouvier Beale became a cult fashion figure due to the documentary Grey Gardens. Which starred Edie and her Mother, two formally upper class women who now lived in poverty in a derelict mansion in the Hamptons. The Aunt and first cousin of Jackie Kennedy, the women had grown up with privilege and wealth, but now found themselves penniless, forgotten and living as recluses. Although the film itself is quite sad, their strong personalities and Little Edie’s ability to make the most of her situation while expressing herself through her “make do and mend” style made her somewhat of a beloved, yet tragic Icon. If you want to see the best impression of her check out Jinkx Monsoon’s perfect Little Edie during season 5 of Ru Paul’s drag race Snatch game episode. It was perfection!
Grey Gardens has been the inspiration for many fashion stories and editorials, seen above in Vogue España shot by Mark Seliger.
My love Jinx Monsoon
It doesn’t get any better than the Icon herself Ms Priestly. The main part to getting this one right would be the wig. I found a fantastic one from Powder Room. Add some hoop earrings, oval smoked sunglasses and a withering facial expression and you’ll be the devil herself.
Speaking of the “devil”, You’ll be the boss of the party in this look. Perfect for everyone with a dark blonde bob! Just get on a lovely tweed dress and jacket combo, a pair of strappy sandals, a big pair of black sunglasses, and bob’s your uncle, easy peasy!
This would be a perfect couple option as an accompanying look to Anna. Or a great drag look for a woman. All you need is a white wig tied back in a pony tail, some black glasses, a sharp suit, with big collar, fingerless gloves and a pair of boots and you’re good to go! :)
This will be my option if I don’t get my Little Edie look together. One of my favourite Vogue editors of all time. Her couture shoot featured in “The September issue” documentary was absolutely breathtaking. A relatively easy one clothes wise, all you need is a loose fitting black trouser and shirt combo with skater sneakers ( Céline if you’re lucky enough to have them) and a big, frizzy red wig and that’s you.
Andre león Talle
Another great couple option, partnering with Anna or Grace. Although Andre looks very dapper in a beautiful suit, he’s at his most Iconic in a fabulous kaftan, carrying a fan.
A great group idea. Kim Kardashian, make up artist Joyce Bonelli and their kids killing a Vogue family look.
As many of you know, I love the divine Ms Battaglia, fashion editor supreme, she brings such a joy to her work and her social media. Often seen in a bold red, you’ll be the best dressed at any party next week if you follow in her very glam footsteps!
This Fashion Icon is in her 90s, can you believe it?! A life spent travelling and buying for her interior business can be seen in her eclectic taste and love of colour, print and as many accessories as one can wear without needing a chiropractor! This is for everyone who loves to be seen and noticed. Feel free to cover yourself in as many colours and bangles as you can manage and have a great party!
The beloved, late fashion photographer who never missed an important fashion event, and was always seen in his favourite blue French workman’s jacket, beige trousers accompanied by his trusty camera, of course.
Hope that gave you some fun inspo amigos. Please get in touch and tell me what you’re going as and send photos :) !!!
