A Pop! Of colour
The sun has got his hat on here in Barcelona, the flowers are blooming and the temperature is rising. I have spent the last few months in my usual uniform of black and white, and feel like I need a little more joy in my wardrobe. Inspired by the abundance of colour seen on the Runway ( hello Valentino!) and on the red carpet lately, today we’re going to look at colour, colour, and more colour! :)
Gemma Chan in Valentino,
Lady Gaga also in Valentino,
Kacey Musgraves in Giambattista Valli.
Last week we talked about shopping responsibly and fashion sustainability, so I want to stress that when we do look books and shopping guides here at Style Pop! It’s for inspiration. You don’t have to run out and buy a whole load of new things, have a look at what you’ve already got and see if you can make it work. If you fancy something new, get a piece that you really love and know will last you for a long time to come.
I really admire when people can mix it up and clash colour and print Man Repeller style. However, when I try, it just doesn’t work. Simplicity is best on my frame. So the trend this Spring/ Summer of head to toe colour might work for me. It seems more streamlined and unfussy when it’s monotone.
Top, Awkwafina and Spike Lee killing it in purple at the Oscars this year.
Bottom, Solange and Giovanna showing us how it’s done!
Sometimes it can be tricky choosing colours that complement each other. So layering with the same colour or similar tones can be a great and easy way to break into wearing colour.
The only thing you should be mindful of, is that when you dress head to toe in one colour you can resemble the fruit, vegetable or animal that is associated with it. The key, as always with dressing, is go for a great silhouette and flattering colour or print for your skin tone, and you’ll be fine, even if you do look like a tomato, you’ll look like a fabulous and confident one. Oh and the less accessories the better, Giovanna gets away with it below, but she’s not a mere mortal like the rest of us ;P
Queen of head to toe red, the always glamorous Giovanna Engelbert.
Pretty in pink doesn’t do this justice! The Valentino left, is out of this world gorgeous, what a Goddess!
Talk about finding the joy in fashion! No one does it like Tracee Ellis Ross “we’re not worthy, we’re not worthy”
I want to be her best friend, she always looks like she’s having the time of her life, and looks so amazing while doing it.
Red suit by Jorge Vasquez
Mellow yellow by Uterqüe
Red suit by Zara
Brightly coloured tailoring is really popular this season. Spanish brand Jorge Vasquez has a stunning red suit made from crepe, a fabric I love, as it hangs nicely and lasts for years. The price point is higher, but this is an investment suit, that should last you for a long time to come. The high street stores have lots of different colours to choose from. This lemon suit from Uterque (pictured middle) has a real 60s mod vibe to it, and the red suit from Zara looks like it has a fabulous cut to it, and the price point is more accessible than the Jorge Vasquez one pictured on the left.
A whole lotta pink!
Get your cool on in Paloma Wool
If tailoring or bright colours aren’t your thing, check out these cool, retro feel pastel cord suits and joggers from Barcelona brand Paloma Wool. Less in your face, but still so much fun.
The great thing about investing in a fun coloured suit, is the versatility. Dress up with a beautiful leather flat sandal or with a Tee and sneaker for a relaxed vibe. Then separate them and double up your options.
Just a Pop!
If head to toe monotone is too much for you, try a great pop of colour like this amazing flamenco skirt below from Uterque, and keep it casual with sneakers and a fresh white top, perfect for a sunny day to evening. If you like a heel, dress it up with a wedge espadrille or sandal, Jaquemus style.
